I am writing this post from the epitome of my mobile office.  We may still be waiting for the flying cars and hoverboards Back to the Future II predicted for 2015, but it doesn’t escape me just how crazy it is to be in the passenger seat on the freeway; editing photos on my laptop; listening to music on demand over Spotify; and posting via my phone’s “mobile hotspot.”

Let me set the scene:  I’m working hard to get this annual recap post up but am struggling with the writers block that plagues me just about every time I attempt to blog.  My nails are getting shorter and shorter with every deleted sentence and my frustration is growing. Meanwhile, a catchy song comes on the “radio” and my husband, punch drunk from driving for 6 hours straight, starts wildly singing and dancing in the car.  While this would normally make me laugh, I am sitting here annoyed; trying to tune him out because, gosh darn it, I.need.to.work.  My son asks if we can play a family game to pass the time and I tell him, “In a minute, honey.” (knowing darn well it would be closer to 30)

Clearly getting nowhere with my writing, I decide to focus on narrowing down my 14 images instead.  All it takes is one glance at the photos I am about to post, and I am hit on the head like a ton of bricks.  All of this technology is awesome, but it’s not a substitute for connection.  It cannot replace the smell of a newborn baby, the comfort of a furry friend, the exhilaration of a piggy back ride, or (in our case) the feeling of closing that laptop and belting out Taylor Swift from the top of our lungs as we round the last corner home.

On the eve of this new year, may these images spark a resolution in you to nurture the connections in your own lives.  I know they have in mine.
