I had the pleasure of first photographing this family two year ago, back when the twins were itty bitty newborns. I love newborn photography for many reasons, but one of the biggest perks of the job is getting to watch these babies grow up – year after year – in front of my lens.

Toddlers photograph best when they are in their comfort zone, so we opted to hold the shoot at their home where they could interact with their parents in their natural environment.  Having both been recently diagnosed with autism, their mom was concerned about their lack of ability to respond to commands.  This is a common concern with so many parents who stress about their portrait sessions being “perfect.” I absolutely get it.  What if my kids don’t look right at the camera and smile?  What if they get their clothes I planned for weeks get all dirty in 5 seconds? What if they don’t behave? Which leads me to the beauty of why, after all of these years photographing families, I am in love with lifestyle photography – it documents our real.  The only thing that needs to be “perfect” is our connection with each other. Their goal was a session that captured the joy, love and fun of being a family. I think we accomplished just that.
