When many clients think about outdoor family session locations, they automatically gravitate to the idea of a park or other “green” space.  And while I love a good park, there are other fun options that provide fantastic backdrops for your family photos — the urban setting being one of my absolute favorites!  And it’s a great option for early spring sessions since the grass is often more brown than green this time of year.  Regardless of the time of year, urban sessions can bring texture and color and a whole lotta personality to your images.

This session is one of my all time favorites, taken at the end of this past November.  It was the result of a chance meetup with an old friend at Trader Joe’s (picture my unruly 2 year old throwing frozen food as we tried to chat- thanks for keeping things civilized, Max). We hadn’t seen each other in over 15 years so I was super excited when his wife contacted me for a session.  It was surreal meeting his family and seeing the father he has become.  The love between these three just…oozes.  But I’ll let you see for yourself. 🙂

I always like to get a solo shot with just the parents because so many of us (me included) haven’t had one taken since our wedding day.

When I discuss wardrobe with my clients before a shoot, I always stress how important it is to incorporate texture for visual interest.  They did a beautiful job with Kaya’s outfits.

Who doesn’t love a little girl in a pettiskirt?

Thank you, Christine, Jeremy and sweet little Kaya Lee.  This is one I will always remember.
