Spring in Bloom – Family Photographer in Nashua NH

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Fall is not my favorite season to photograph families. No shade to foliage (it is another great choice for good reason), but springtime is my best kept secret for outdoor photography. Here are the reasons why I think spring is THE sweet spot for portrait sessions:

• Everything is in bloom. The trees are blossoming, the flowers are sprouting, and the grass is lush and green.

• It’s not hot yet. Spring weather means we can run around and play without sweat dripping down our faces. Anyone who has had portraits done in the middle of a 90-degree humid afternoon, I’m speaking to you.

• Sunset is earlier. While the late sunsets of summer can be super convenient for families with older kids scheduling weeknight sessions after work, little ones can have a hard time staying up that late. Spring sessions for young families allow you to avoid “witching hour” while still getting the magic of golden hour!

• It’s not super crowded yet. It’s no secret that fall is the busiest season for family portraits. At the popular locations, it’s not uncommon for several families to be shooting with various photographers at the same time. In the spring we often have these places all to ourselves.

• You can get it in before crazy summer schedules begin. Everyone knows the drill when trying to make plans with family and friends in the summer. There are vacations, BBQs and a whole host of other activities that can make scheduling family photos difficult. In Spring you’re still in your school routine. Knock this off the list before all the kids (and parents!) are running in different directions.
