“The Sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”

–Jacques Cousteau

It is no secret how much I love the ocean.  I’ve vacationed on Wells Beach since I was a child.  My mom vacationed there as a child too.  We have history here.  Vivid memories of carefree times.  As much as I  love exploring and traveling to new places, there is something profound about returning to Wells every year.  It’s like coming home.

Me and my son – 2012

Unlike toys and electronics and so many other things that are in constant evolution, the beach remains the beach.

The following are some of the images I captured on this year’s vacation.  You can also view ones from past years by clicking here and here.

I’d love to hear about the places that have special meaning to you and your own families.  I invite you to share in the comments section at the end of this post. 🙂

I borrowed a fish eye lens from a fellow photographer and had lots of fun playing around with the effects!  I think the beach is a perfect place to utilize a fish eye lens.

The making of our annual massive drippy castle!

Sand is a powerful natural reflector.  Even on cloudy days, you can get gorgeous catchlights at the beach.

On their “shell” phones. Get it? 😉

My little man loved sunning on our deck.  I took full advantage since staying still a such a rare occurrence for him!

Preschool pick-up is calling my name, so the rest will have to wait for another day.

I’ll leave you with this:

At the beach, life is different. Time doesn’t move hour to hour but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides and follow the sun.”
